2021.12.01 01:13 steepscrimmage Growth Gang for life.

Let me preface this by saying that I had the good fortune to have a generally decent person of an ex who stayed with me for a good, long 7 years that never cheated on or abused me, or blindsided me, or left me for someone else - we simply argued too much over things that never really mattered in the grand scheme, and failed to communicate and be vulnerable when we needed to the most - all of which was indicative of deeper unmet needs within us both. It was a situation that he understandably no longer believed would get any better.
For those of you that were not so fortunate, your anger and pain is unimaginable, so please know that I and the support-network provided by this subreddit are here for you and while I understand that, as a result, this may not relate as well to your experiences, I hope that something of my perspective here may still resonate with you:
So, typically, after a breakup we're so often told to not try to mind-read or imagine how our exes must be feeling as to whether they miss us or if they'll ever reach out again - that we should just "move on". While this is generally solid advice, I've seen it misconstrued as recommending that we distract ourselves from all thoughts about them and carry on with our lives with the expectation that this alone will substantially aid in our growth and that they'll simply fade from our hearts and minds with time and possibly pop up later, potentially wanting another chance, preferably once we no longer care about them.
This may work for some, but after 6 months of intensive reflection and self-improvement, I can say that in my case, this is only partially true. In truth, it doesn't help to dwell on how they might be feeling right now, as they're no longer in your life, and so yes, you should focus on moving on; however, it's absolutely crucial to your growth as a person and as a future partner to try to think back on events from the relationship in an analytical and compassionate way - specifically during your times of difficulty and disconnection with them - in order to identify areas for your own potential improvement. This is the internal work that helps us to realize that maybe we need to establish boundaries for ourselves, regain our sense of identity, work on our time-management skills, or on becoming securely-attached, etc.
Here's some questions I often considered, typically coming to all varieties of answers over time: Were there some concerns they often repeated that you didn't listen to or take seriously? Were there concerns of yours that went unheeded? Where did you go wrong in disagreements? Where did they? What needs of yours weren't being met? Which ones of theirs weren't you meeting? How does your attachment style play into all this? How does theirs? What about your love languages? How might you have handled situations differently if you knew then what you know now?
Admittedly, it's a very painful process, especially in the beginning, however focusing on this not only helps to take them off the pedestal as it requires you to remember in vivid detail that not everything was sunshine and roses with them - that they're just as flawed as us, it also accelerates your growth potential by highlighting what you'd benefit from working on within yourself - giving you a self-development roadmap of sorts, and as an added bonus: as you gain insight into your own shortcomings (and theirs), it opens your heart to greater empathy and compassion for them as you come to understand what they had to put up with in choosing to love you (and vice versa, of course).
So, with all this in mind, where has my own journey through this process led to?
Well, after the breakup, I firmly decided to take a year to work solely on myself - no new relationships, no distractions, no breaking contact - just me, my thoughts, and my breakthrough tools. After 6 months of self-work and considering things from what I imagine his perspective must've been - based on things said and actions taken - and comparing it to my own, I've found that I'm now able to empathize with his reasons for leaving and genuinely appreciate the role he had in my life and everyone and everything he brought into it.
I don't mean that in the typically platitudinal way. Looking back at all the times he almost left and I begged him to stay, and he actually chose to - I realize he did it to make me happy. Sure there were other incentives and complacencies involved as well, but the point stands that he still chose to continue what we had when he just as easily could've walked away. In those moments where everything in him told him to leave me, while I was being self-centered in my triggered, anxiously-attached state - trying to manipulate him into staying with me through begging and pleading and persuasion - he saw right through it and was still considering my happiness and the potentiality of a future for us. So, after all the times he stayed at my behest, how could I ever fault him for finally leaving?
Sure, it hurt like hell and still does; in fact, some days this peaceful mentality eludes me, entirely, but it's a hurt I need to continue enduring to learn and appreciate and rise from the ashes anew. Do I wish he'd been willing to try again that last time, like usual? A few months ago, it would've been a resolute, 'Of course!' but now, I can wholeheartedly say that without this breakup, this distance, the disentangling of our lives, and all the trials and tribulations I've overcome on my own to get this far ever since, I wouldn't have learned anywhere near as much as I'd been needing to in order to actually become the better partner I kept promising him for years I was going to be.
Now, though a work-in-progress as I am, I can find an inner peace knowing that I finally have what it takes to be that person and partner, now capable of being so much better, kinder, more loving, and securely-attached; whether I share the depths of my growth with him, should he ever come back, or with someone entirely new - I know that everything's going to work out just fine in the end.
If I can reach this sense of peace and genuine appreciation for my ex in only half a year of self-improvement, I can only imagine how much greater and more secure in myself I'll be, come the next six months.
What are some ways you've grown from your breakup? Any goals you've achieved since? Making progress on? Let's take a moment to celebrate our successes, no matter how big or small!

2021.12.01 01:13 BlueWaterGirl Has anyone used the Abbvie assistance program for Humira?

After the run around my husband got from his doctors office, basically telling him he had to go through a specialty pharmacy but then finding out from the pharmacy that Humira would cost us $1900 per syringe (with an insurance plan through Medicare). His doctors office finally told us about the Abbvie assistance program and helped him with the application.
Has anyone used this program? If so, how long did it take to get approved or denied after submitting an application? How many doses do they send you at one time?
